The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of Palatinose-containing chewing gum, Mutastein-containing chewing, and Palatinose & Mutastein containing-chewing gum on glucan synthesis, dental plaque accumulation and elimination.
Thee authors experimented inhibitory effect of 3 test chewing gums extracts by Endo method, and had :examined the dental plaque accumulation on all teeth of 30 subjects who we chewing one of 3 test chewing gums. during 3 days, 3 times a day, 20 minutes a time. Thereafter, the effect of dental plaque elimination was examined on all teeth of 30 subjects who were chewing one of 3 test chewing gum.
The examinee had not brush teeth during 1 day. The study was designed as a 4-period trial, and PHP (9-divided surfaces) was used to evaluate the amount of plaque. The effect of 3 test chewing gums. on plaque control was calculated in relation to control sucrose-containing chewing gum.
The obtained results were as follows:
1. The extract of P-containing chewing gum, M-containing chewing, and PM-containing chewing gum inhibited glucan synthesis. (p < 0.01)
2. Plaque elimination effect between 3 test chewing gum and control was not significant statistically...
3. PM-containing chewing gum accumulated less dental plaque than control. (p < 0.05)
